Celebrating the Fourth of July Abroad: A Reminder That Home Is Who You Share It With ❤️🤍💙

I couldn't be happier with how our last-minute 4th of July picnic turned out. The full spread came together beautifully, and it was amazing how a few simple touches of red, white and blue made everything feel festive. It's always the little details that make a gathering feel intentional, and seeing it all come together, even in a short period of time, is one of my favorite parts of hosting.
While I love planning a beautiful tablescape (or in this case picnic-scape) or putting together a menu, I've learned that hosting is never really about the decorations or the food. Those things simply create the setting. The real reason fo bringing people together is to spend quality time with the people you love. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, a holiday or simply gathering on a random weekend, it's about creating moments that you'll look back on fondly.
I often joke that if hosting were a love language, it would definitely be mine. There's something so fulfilling about creating a space where people feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for. Seeing friends chatting over good food, laughing together, and making memories is what makes every bit of planning worthwhile.
The Fourth of July felt especially meaningful because it was my first time celebrating theh oliday since moving abroad four years ago. I wasn't sure what to expect, but as we settled into the park, I was suprrised to see many other international families and friends celebrating too. Blankets covered the gross, barbecues were sizzling, children were running around in red, white and blue, and groups of friends gathered together for picnics. For a few hours, it felt like a little piece of home.
The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and as I looked around at everyone enjoying the sunshine and each other's company, I was reminded that home isn't always a place. Sometimes it's the people you're surrounded by and the traditions you choose to carry with you, wherever you are.
Looking back, this picnic reminded me that hosting doesn't have to be elaborte or planned months in advance to be meaningful. Sometimes the most memorable gatherings are the ones that come together at the last minute, with simple food, thoughtful details, and the people who matter most. And if there's one thing I'll awalys take away from the Fourth of July, it's that a meal with friends can make anywehere feel a little more like home. ❤️🤍💙
