As we change our clocks for spring, the shift in time can feel like a small reset. The days grow longer, the air feels lighter, and routines begin to shift with the season. Instead of focusing on losing an hour of sleep, it can help to reframe the moment as an opportunity—an extra hour of daylight to grow, reset, and welcome a new rhythm.

Spring is often represented by the color green, a symbol of renewal, growth, and calm. 🌱 When I think about a seasonal ingredient that captures this feeling perfectly, matcha immediately comes to mind. Its vibrant green color and natural origins connect beautifully with the themes of the season.

Matcha isn’t just a drink. It can become part of slow spring mornings, quiet rituals, and cozy baking moments that make the transition into a new season feel intentional. Over time, my matcha morning routine has become a simple way to slow down, be present, and start the day with intention.

Why Matcha Feels Like the Perfect Spring Ingredient 🍵

In my opinion, there is something about matcha that naturally fits the energy of spring.

Its vibrant green color mirrors the fresh leaves and new growth appearing outside this time of year. Since matcha is made from finely ground green tea leaves, it also carries a strong connection to nature and plant-based ingredients that reflect the season. 🍃

Beyond its color, matcha offers a different kind of energy than many traditional morning drinks. Instead of the quick spike of caffeine from coffee, matcha is known for providing gentle, steady energy. This slower boost feels aligned with the mindful, refreshed feeling that often comes with spring.

Matcha is also incredibly versatile. While many people enjoy it as a warm latte or iced drink, it also works beautifully in baked goods, desserts, and seasonal treats.

A Spring Reset: Creating New Matcha Morning Rountine ✨

Spring is often a time when people feel inspired to refresh their routines. This doesn’t always require a big life change—sometimes the smallest rituals can make the biggest difference.

A calm and intentional start to the day can set the tone for everything that follows. Preparing matcha can become part of a slow, mindful morning routine that feels grounding rather than rushed (and with the shift into spring and longer days, now can be the perfect time to introduce a small ritual like this into your mornings).

Some simple ways to create a matcha morning ritual include:

  • Whisking matcha instead of rushing for coffee

  • Sitting by a window with natural morning light

  • Pairing a matcha drink with a homemade treat or breakfast

  • Journaling your gratitude or thoughts for the day

  • Taking a few quiet minutes before starting the day

These small habits can transform an ordinary morning into something that feels more welcoming and intentional. 🌱

Simple Tips for Making Matcha at Home 🏡

I am no expert when it comes to making matcha, but since it has become part of my morning routine, I’ve discovered a few helpful tips along the way.

If you’re learning how to make matcha at home, these small adjustments can make a big difference:

  • Soften your whisk by soaking in hot water before whisking your matcha

  • Sift the matcha powder to avoid clumps and create a smoother drink

  • Use hot but not boiling water to preserve the flavor

  • Whisk the matcha in a zig-zag “W” motion to create a light foam

  • Use a small bowl instead of a mug for easier whisking

  • Add a splash of maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink

  • Oat milk or coconut milk are great dairy-free options for lattes

  • Adjust the matcha strength depending on your preference

Spring Baking with Matcha 🥣

Matcha is not only perfect for drinks—it’s also a beautiful ingredient for spring baking.

Because of its earthy flavor and natural green color, matcha pairs especially well with ingredients like:

  • White Chocolate

  • Vanilla

  • Cream Cheese

The bright green color adds a seasonal touch to baked goods, making desserts feel fresh and spring-inspired. Baking with matcha can also be a relaxing weekend activity that brings a little creativity into the kitchen.

One of my favorite ways to bake with matcha is in soft, fudgy brownies.

Matcha Brownies Recipe

These matcha brownies combine the earthy flavor of matcha with the sweetness of white chocolate for a soft, rich dessert that feels perfect for spring baking.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

  • 4 oz white chocolate

  • 2 tbsp matcha powder

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar

  • 3 eggs

  • ½ tsp vanilla

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 pan.

  2. Melt butter, white chocolate, and salt using a double boiler. Stir until smooth, then whisk in the matcha powder.

  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, sugars, and vanilla until thick and creamy.

  4. Slowly mix in the matcha chocolate mixture.

  5. Fold in the flour until combined.

  6. Pour batter into the pan and bake 25–30 minutes until set with a fudgy center.

Small Rituals for a Soft Spring 🍃

Spring doesn’t have to mean a complete life reset. Often, the most meaningful changes come from small rituals that make everyday moments feel a little more intentional.

Sometimes a soft reset is as simple as slowing down, enjoying the longer days, and finding comfort in small routines that bring a sense of calm.

And sometimes, it starts with a cup of matcha. 🍵
